My Best Friend's Kitchen Remodel

My girlfriend Britney and her husband recently did a complete overhaul on their kitchen. Their diligent pre-planning and hard work paid off, big time. Britney is incredibly creative when it comes to restoring and refinishing antique pieces and she married a completely man's-man, handy guy.
They have turned into such a dynamic duo when it comes to fixing up their sweet farm home, they could quite possibly have their own show on HGTV, with me hosting...of course. Either way, I asked her to snap some photos during the process and afterwards so I could share them with you all.

The After!...
It looks incredibly fresh and crisp, but still completely livable. It offers functionality while still being picturesque. Not to mention, have I ever told y'all I hate granite counter tops? We currently have them in our rental, and they seriously make me cringe. I think that using concrete (and that little hint of butcher block) is the ideal alternative.

What they used:
Countertops: Concrete, Concrete Stain in Dark Coal, Wet Look Sealer, followed these steps to achieve their look, using wet look sealer instead.
-------------------------------------------------
Cabinets: Cleaned with a Deglosser, Primer, purchased this paint sprayer for an even coat and painted with Valspar De Jour using a semi-gloss finish so they did not have to use a sealer.  (wipe up great)
-------------------------------------------------
Backsplash: Subway Tiles, Grout
-------------------------------------------------
Details: Satin Nickel Pulls, Lighting, Rug

The entire kitchen makeover cost was $685!
Can you believe they did all of this for that budget? Not to mention for those of us, my husband and myself, who aren't as talented in the remodeling department, this makes it seem possible and affordable.

  3. This looks gorgeous!!! We just painted our cabinets a very very light greige, almost white. I've been trying to find a cost-effective way to do our countertops since I also really hate granite! I bookmarked the DIY concrete countertop! Love it!

  7. It’s really nice to have a handyman at home right? You not only get to save a lot, you also have complete flexibility on how you want the new look of your kitchen will be. Speaking of new look, I like how your best friend's kitchen is now. It’s more elegant and modern with the metallic and black finishes.
