first steps into the pacific ocean

We have lived here for 7 months (crazy) and I had yet to step foot in the Pacific Ocean. Not even a toe dip. It's the end of July and most surfers here are still wearing wetsuits that's how chilly it is. Since it usually doesn't get unbearably hot here, there really is no need for me to cool off in the ocean. In a moment of weakness, I promised B that I would finally go in the water this past weekend. I was thinking waist deep, but my friends had another idea in mind.
Hated it...and ran right back out...
...then got yelled at for being a wimp.
Gave it one more shot...
...and was dunked completely under the water!
But I survived!

I feel so thankful to have met such cool people out here, military and non military. Even more thankful to have this wonderful beach to fill up our weekends!

I'll never forget on our honeymoon up in NorCal -mid june and people were asking how our ocean was here on the East Coast.. meaning, could we actually swim in it..

    1. Yes the East Coast is MUCH warmer, even though Ben totally gets in without a wetsuit, which is crazy to me. I remember when we first moved out here Kate (from Set the Circus Down) told me not to do anything crazy like run into the ocean in the middle of January because it's much colder than the East Coast! Glad I listened to her!

  3. I'm the Casey Dee speaks of above. I didn't go in the water for a couple of years......just now do. My kids are nuts and will go in anytime. We've been at the beach a ton this year and so I'm finally embracing it. Enjoy!

    1. It may be one of the only few times I actually do go in, you know unless of course there isn't a restroom near. (TMI?) Either way, love being at the beach though, can't beat this view!

  4. Ahh! Isn't the pacific cold?! Whenever I go to the coast, I have to challenge myself to dip my toes... Then I get yelled at for being a wimp ;) you're not alone!! Of course, you guys have nicer weather down in Cali than we do up here in wa!!

  5. The sad thing is, just driving down from Oregon to California (well, below San Francisco) feels like a hot, wonderful beach vacation. Haha! My husband and I drove down to LA during our spring break in 2009 and I was like, yeah, 70 and 80 degree temperatures! Woo hoo! It's pretty surprising how many Oregonians get in the Pacific in the summer (at least in the beach towns I frequent), but granted it's normally about waist high or less. Either way, brr!

    1. Oh my gracious, well now I feel like I'll have to try the water out whenever we vacation up north just to see how cold it really can be!

  7. Ha, as N above says, it feels warm to us here in Oregon cause the ocean up here is soooooo cold we don't even refer to it as the beach. It took my South Cal husband quite awhile to accept we don't go to the coast to swim, but to look at the waves and wildlife and sit in the sand. I can't imagine growing up on the Atlantic and then going swimming in the Pacific. They don't even compare!
