California! Here we come!

As if getting engaged, married, moving to DC all in 6 months wasn't life changing enough, B and I just received his orders. In a few short months, we will be...

...moving to Southern California!!!!!!

We still catch ourselves in giddy excitement as we occasionally blurt out things to one another like, "Hey I'm moving to Paradise, wanna come with me?"

I've spent most of my life in the Carolinas (with the exception of these 5 months that I am in Virginia), so this is such a drastic change for me in the way I've always lived. After B proposed, I knew moving outside of North Carolina was a large possibility, but I didn't realized how much of a nester I really was until I got the call saying that we were moving to across the country to a state I have seen for all of three days in my entire life. So many of the reasons other couples didn't want to be stationed in North Carolina are the same reasons I find myself loving it. We know that in our hearts our home will always be the Carolinas and one day we hope to find ourselves settling down there. Until that time however, we feel so grateful for the opportunity the military life provides for us to to travel and experience life in other parts of the country/world. Also, B and I find ourselves moving out to Cali with a few close friends we have made here in DC, friends from college, and some some friends that we will be meeting for the first time once we get out there! if you ask me, it sounds like we have an awesome adventure ahead of us!

Now the big question, how I am supposed to plan a wedding this December and move us across the country? I'll keep you updated on that.

Pedal to the floor, thinkin' of the roar, gotta get us to the shore, California here we come.....

  7. YAY!! I hope you'll love it. It's very very different from the Carolinas. I was born and raised in SoCal, and just moved to Kansas last year, you'll have to tell me where you'll be stationed so I can tell you fun "local" things to do and places to go!

  16. How exciting! I hope your PCS from VA to CA goes as smooth as possible! Until then, enjoy all things (food wise) that you can't get in CA! Southern cuisine and BBQ are the first things I think of! ; )

  18. oh yea!

I -love- living near the beach in SoCal. It's a good bit different than your current corner of the world but with your energy and positive attitude you will find a way to make it your own.

Sweet tea. Hard to come by. Have to find a "chick fil a" they are FINALLY starting to pop up.

Less humidity is a thumbs up. Traffic and prices of homes is a thumbs down.

Two bits of advice: live as near to the coast as you can & try an in and out burger.

  20. YAYYY!!! Makes me so excited!!! Can't wait to show you around! It's funny because just today K and I were looking for housing near Quantico because there's a large chance that we may be stationed there for EWS for a year after we leave CA next summer. From there we will most like go to NC (where we want to go for the same reasons why you love it so much)! Counting the days until we meet!! XO

  22. I just recently moved from Camp Pendleton to Vandenberg AFB and both are just lovely areas. If you'll be at Camp Pendleton, it's about 45 minutes north of San Diego and Oceanside is very touristy but you're also close to Carlsbad. I frequented there often for their mall, Barnes and Noble, and Trader Joe's. In terms of PCS-ing, make sure you take diligent notes on the quality of your items before you move and if you're driving out to California I highly recommend bringing a solid of set of dishes with you versus packing them. It took two weeks for my things to officially make it to my house when I got stationed at Vandyland and it was only a 5-hour move north. That way, if you move into your house/apartment, you'll be able to grocery shop, cook, etc.

  23. So so exciting! Congrats! My parents lived in Southern California for a while too :) my dad was stationed there, and then they headed to Okinawa...But I'm so incredibly excited for you and your hubby! Good luck with the wedding planning, and the move, you will be exhausted after this year, but it will be one of the best years of your life, I can just feel it :)

  24. Welcome, welcome, welcome! You will love it here. We've lived in many places and we chose to live in SoCal for many reasons. I live in Oceanside and would love to meet you once you arrive. Please feel free to ask any questions. Happy to help!

  27. How exciting for you & Ben!! :) Southern California is my birthplace & where I've spent nearly my entire life, you will LOVE it!!!!! <3 There is so much to do & see not to mention the beaches are incredible!

  28. Congrats!! My biggest piece of advice is to NOT do a full-DITY. We did from Pensacola to Oceanside (2 weeks after we got married in Chicago) and the money we saved was NOT worth the stress!!
