the lucky one

In the very early stages of B and I dating, he surprised me one afternoon with Nicholas Sparks, The Lucky One (which had hit shelves that week) and a bag of Ghirardelli dark chocolates. For the next two days, I toted the novel with me to work and classes (whoops) and may have even started sobbing in my one of my parks and recreation classes. Whenever I read one of his novels, I completely leave the "real world."
I love that the main character is a rugged Marine. I love that Zac Efron playing the character of Logan. Actually, all of the characters are perfectly casted. I love the setting on the coast and the old southern homes. I am looking forward to seeing the movie.

In theaters April 20th.
Did you read the book?

Today I plan on starting and (probably) completing Safe Haven, a Nicholas Sparks book I've had since 2010 and haven't cracked open. I'm certain it won't be as good as The Lucky One, but better late than never. I will be hanging at the court house all day for Jury Duty so it's the perfect opportunity get reading.

  2. Taylor Schilling's father is a friend of mine, and he was telling me last year about her filming this.

  3. The Lucky One was my favourite Nicholas Sparks novel from start to finish! I read Safe Haven when I was in Wilmington last year! I found it a bit slow but really good! I cried reading both. haha

  4. Ugg, jury duty :( But at least you have a good book to read :) Can't wait to see this movie, The Lucy One is definitely one of my favorites...I totally get swept away by Nicholas Sparks novels.

  5. So the actress that plays Beth used to be on a show that I watched religiously. I think it was on a year or two ago. Anyway, I LOVE HER!!! And I'm so proud to see she's now in movies. But I'm pretty sure she's way older than Zach Efron... is that part of the character development? That they fall for each other and are not the same age... or no??

  6. Um yes. Call Nicholas Sparks books/movies a guilty pleasure, except without the guilt. I'll start stocking up and tissues now!

  7. I get so mad at Sparks book/movie mistakes. I'm such a book nerd it makes me angry to see how they change it for a movie. Like the whole ending of Dear John is wrong. How do you screw that up so bad? It makes me a little nervous to see The Lucky One and have it ruin how much I liked the book.

On a positive note, I'm not the biggest Zach Efron fan out there but when I saw the preview for this movie I nearly swooned! He's looking good!

  9. The only Nicholas Sparks book I really read (and re-read) was The Guardian. I LOVE that book! It is a bit darker than his usual writing I think but if you are a dog person you have to read it!

  14. Nicholas Sparks is my fave! I really enjoyed Safe Haven. I tried Lucky One on audiobook, but the narrator's voice was really irritating and I haven't got back to picking it up.
